The Scott County Medical Society Book Club will be meeting next on August 6, at 7:00 pm.

Cutting for Stone is an epic 2009 novel by Abraham Verghese about twin brothers, Marion and Shiva Stone, born in Ethiopia to an Indian nun and a British surgeon, who are orphaned at birth and raised in a mission hospital, with their lives unfolding through love, betrayal, and the practice of medicine as they navigate political turmoil in Ethiopia and eventually move to America. The story is a sweeping family saga that blends medical detail with themes of family, exile, identity, and redemption, following the twins from their tumultuous birth in Addis Ababa to their separate paths as surgeons in the U.S.
